Richard Sparre

Richard Sparre, born in Falmouth, Mass. a Cape Cod Native, paints the Cape through eyes of nostalgia. Carrying images of beaches, bogs and quiet places in his mind he designs areas of landscape that invite the viewer to become involved. Interpretations that evolve become a blend of realism and surrealism that stir a reminisence of having been there. In a lighter vein, Sparre takes to whimsey and occasionally pokes fun at Cape Cod characters real and imagined. A continuing viewpoint for some of Sparre's paintings combine a still life in front of a window with a view of beach, dunes, marshes or bogs in the distance. The result is a delightful combination of landscape and still life. Some of Sparre's paintings have been reproduced in limited edition lithographs and some of these have been remarqued with an original painted sketch.
Mr. Sparre shares a studio, home, gallery situation with his wife Barbara, a textile artist and sweater designer on Rte. 6A in Brewster.
